Jim Fixx

Dad, if I remember correctly, this is the guy you've told me about who was responsible for the running movement in the 70s and then keeled over from a heart attack while running. Interesting paragraph from a runnersworld.com article:

"A family-ordered autopsy showed that Jim Fixx had significant blockage in all three coronary arteries. The Vermont state chief medical examiner briefed the family and said that his heart muscle, strengthened by running, had probably extended his life by eight to 10 years."

And a quote of his that I like:

"I don't know if running adds years to your life, but it definitely adds life to your years." -Jim Fixx

  1. Yeah, that's consistent with what I've read about him. Ironic that he should keel over while running, but almost certain that running kept him from keeling over years earlier (due to cigarette smoking, primarily).
